Walking the Heritage Talk
On May 8, more than 40 members joined the heritage talk and guided tour of HKU. This was the first heritage programme jointly organized by the Friends of Centennial Campus and the Conservancy Association Centre for Heritage.
The morning started with a talk about heritage conservation by Dr Lee Ho Yin, Assistant Professor of Faculty of Architecture and Director of the Architectural Conservation Programme. Dr Lee highlighted the importance of both tangible and intangible heritage values, which should be decided not only by professionals, but also the community at large. Dr Lee then led a walking tour of the historic buildings on campus like the Tang Chi Ngong Building, the Main Building and Sun Yat-sen Place. Divided into groups, participants played the role of a heritage assessor and engaged in lively discussions on how individual buildings should be graded.
Environment and heritage are two of the key themes of the Friends of Centennial Campus programme. If you would like to join us or co-organise activities with us, please contact us by email at ccviews@hku.hk
